“Free?”

What do you mean by “free” software?

“Free” software conjures up many mixed responses. When we talk about free, it can mean several things – in some cases, free of cost, in others, it can be open source software. You are free to customize, free to transfer it to a 3rd party, free to seek help from a community or from a paid and contracted support specialist. Free software is best described by the Free Software Foundation.

Some people view “free” software as inferior, but that is a very common misconception. Free software is generally developed by large communities of independent developers, working together to create something out of necessity. Therefore, they develop it to work as well as possible, because they will be using it day in and day out. Many of these developers are also frequently well known names in the industry, people who currently or have formerly worked at companies like Microsoft, Google, Netscape, and many other well known companies.

Let us be clear, we do not force these free applications on our clients, we do not claim that any one program is better than another. They all have their advantages and disadvantages, and we would be happy to discuss them with you. We offer the use of Free software as an option, an alternative to some high priced packages. Our charges only apply to the installation and configuration of such software, never to the cost of it! Why? Because it’s free!

Depending on your needs and budget, we can recommend software packages for several purposes, including:

  • Office Productivity
  • Anti-Virus
  • Data Recovery
  • Internet Content Filtering
  • And much more!
